How to Keep Your Heart Pure

Your heart isn’t just an organ that pumps blood around your body. It’s also the center of your emotions, desires, and motivations—the very essence of who you are. Because it’s so central to everything you think and do, it’s imperative that you keep your heart pure. Otherwise, you may end up hurting yourself or others in order to satisfy your selfish or sinful desires. Fortunately, God has given us plenty instructions on how we can keep our hearts pure, so today we’ll examine five easy ways on how to do so.

1. Focus On Others

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others (Philippians 2:3-4). Pride comes before a fall—that's just reality. The more we focus on ourselves and our own agenda, whether it's getting ahead at work or winning an argument with your spouse, the less love we have in our hearts. We all need reminders that our worth isn't tied up in our success or self-worth.

2. Flee Temptation

Our hearts are vessels that bring us life, even when we're not on the right track. Through God's will, our hearts are forgiven and set free of guilt—but it’s important to remember that forgiveness doesn’t mean sin is suddenly no longer an issue. It means our relationship with God has been restored. We can still be tempted by sin in our daily lives, but it should no longer hold power over us because of what has been done for us. If you want your heart to remain pure, take temptation seriously and reassess your guidance every day.

Vanity is especially important to keep an eye on in the industry of modelling. It is very easy to get used to seeing yourself in a different light, and although that's not wrong, it is wrong to let it go to your head.

An easy way to prevent this is to view everything as a piece of art. This was it doesn't have to be about you, but the process.

3. Take it Seriously

One of your biggest concerns should be keeping your heart pure. If you don’t, you run a high risk of compromising your integrity and ruining your reputation. More than that, though, keeping things clean is important because it gives you peace—you know that when you meet your friends, get gifted new opportunities or face a new challenge, there will be no surprises waiting for you.

4. Ask For Help

In a world that’s designed to be done your way, with instant gratification being standard practice, learning how to ask for help isn’t just a skill—it’s a necessity. When was the last time you asked for help? Think about it because it might surprise you how infrequently we do it. Whether you need help carrying something heavy or gathering information from others, give yourself permission to ask for what you need without feeling selfish or put upon.

People aren’t going to look at you funny; they will respect your willingness to get stuff done.
